How to become a truck driver in Canada USA

More than 90 percent of trade between Canada and the United States is done by land, in other words, it’s done by trucks. This is why trucks and truck drivers are very important to this land. Truck drivers play a very important role in the Canadian and American economy. Both, the United States and Canada always struggle to keep up with the amount of truck drivers they need for the job. This is why trucking pays well and there are always trucking jobs available.

In order to become a truck driver in the province of Ontario, a course called Mandatory Entry Level Training (MELT) is a must take. There are many career colleges that offer this course. But before you can enroll in this course, here are the requirements; one should be 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or an equivalent (trucking schools offer the equivalent) and MTO Class A written test.

If you have everything mentioned above you can enroll into a trucking school. If you are unsure about any of these things, simply phone a truck driving school and they can guide you about the requirements.

Once you complete your MELT course you become eligible for the road test which is done at the Drive Test in Ontario. For the most part, the institute which you got your MELT from will arrange this test for you or you can book it privately but you should have access to a truck and a trailer for the test day.

Air-Brake or Z-Endorsements Course in Guelph Canada

An additional course called Air-Brake or Z-Endorsements is a must take in order to drive a big rig in Canada. All class A trucks are equipped with air brakes. Ministry of Transportation Ontario wants all truck drivers to take the air brake course and have Z-Endorsements on their licenses.

Z-Endorsements is typically a two-day course and it can be done at the career college or they can point you in the right direction to get this done.
